... are available here:

These are in .pdf form. OS X exports this format from its Print Centre, though the files sizes are twice (or more) as big as those created with Adobe Distiller.

I have been using Overture since version 1.0. Bought it back in 1995 from a music store, where I had enquired about Cubase, the only 'pro' notation program I'd managed to track down after someone had shown me the magical (to me) Deluxe Music Construction Set. The salesman said 'We have a fabulous new product called Overture...'. I bought it, and this meant, among other things that I still don't know what 'VST' stands for, or is, or does.

Since then, I have completed both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in composition (in my late 40s), and all my lecturers have commented on the clarity, precision, and aesthetic appeal of my Overture-made scores. Sometimes they even approve of the music itself.

Since then, I have resisted the siren call of Finale, which to my way of thinking is a fine typesetting program, but an awkward composition tool. Sibelius seems a compromise between Overture and Finale, a foot in both camps, as it were. I'm too old to re-tool, anyway. I'm unwilling to abandon the investment of time I have made mastering Overture, despite its occasional vexations.

Since then, I also feel I may have earned a modest marcasite star on each sleeve for informal Overture Beta testing, or at least a simple chevron, compensating for my floods of tears when hours of work suddenly vanished after a freeze/crash. Auto-save would be so nice: I've learned, from bitter experience, to Save after entering almost each measure. I'm now using the OS X version, 3.6.1, as well as 3.5.1 with OS 9, because my A3 printer is a serial job, and I'm unwilling to buy a USB A3 machine when the other one works so well. Thank heavens Overture has retro-file capability, and forward compatability, too! Finale sure don't.

Enough. My non-Overture music is listenable here:

Best wishes to all my Overture-using colleages.

Stephen Gard

Length ?
The rest are instrumentnames:
2 vns = 2 violins
va = viola
vc = cello
