Solely Recording Expression W/out Overwriting Notes

Hey Raymond,

The goal I was looking for was to independently record controller data in Overture without recording over notes...in this case expression but it really applies to all controller data.

I have either always...

...hand or better said "mouse" written my data in when it comes to expression/modulation/pedal etc...

...or recorded performance lines/sections at the keyboard that would input the notes while simultaneously using mod wheel control/midi faders/nob controls/and or pedal control to implement controller/pedal data...

...or leave an entire instrument line completed in notation and at the end of an entire score when I am preparing to record the audio to wave for mixing...while I am recording one particular instrument line... I'd live "perform" so to speak just the mod wheel/midi faders/nobs/pedal controls...which means it would have to be spot on. This also assumes the patch you are using is equipped with the ability to respond to your controllers.

...it's worth noting that I would also do a little preliminary mix to get volume levels to a semi adequate point before getting all the files recorded and imported into a mix...which can also be controlled via CC7 "volume" if desired.

So basically I have been forcing myself into a needless corner by only using these really rather TIRESOME, EXHAUSTING, LONGER, INTENSIVE, and sometimes rather TRICKY methods by thinking there was no other alternative approach to improve/speed up this process.

Alternative...Overture's "Record Options" feature....allows you to pick exactly what you want to record...by default it is set to 'ALL" but it doesn't have to be this way. That was my issue. You can choose Record "All" - "Only" or "All Except" !!!!!!!!!!!!!

So long story short...I may still use some of the above approaches for velocity and performance purposes...however now considering the above... you could just simply write in an entire instrument line with perfect notation or just a few measures or what have you...and then just go back to it at any given point no matter how small or large...set your record options feature to what you are looking to add in the way of program change, after touch, mod wheel, volume, pan, sustain pedal, portamento...etc....and solely record and concentrate on each one individually from the luxury of using your faders/nob wheels/pedal or what have you. No more being an octopus doing 8 things at once lol. Welcome to the 21st Century Dean

Working harder not smarter doesn't always prove to yield the best results lol...I should be able to dramatically increase workflow and quality with this option that has been staring at me in the face for God knows how long.

You do know that there is a quicker option:

If you've recorded your initial note data into voice 1, try recording other non-note data (like controllers...) using alternate voices on the same track. Think of the other voices as extra midi data channels. If and when you're happy with the performance, you can decide to merge your data or leave it separate for further tweaking (rerecording) later on.
