My hard drive failed, and except on this forum, I've mostly shared the music I've composed with Overture via PDF. If the recovery doesn't succeed, is there any way other than manual to make editable files again?

You’ve obviously generated your PDF files from your source .ovex files using your preferred conversion program. I sure hope that you have stored copies of your .ovex files on a separate inexpensive storage device. This is called good housekeeping and is recommended practice for all Overture computer users who want to ensure that their valuable and treasured works are safe. You could also use a ‘cloud’ service for storage.

The file information can be retrieved from some failed hard drives (for a fee). Your local computer shop could help you in that regard.

A PDF file on its own means nothing to Overture.
