Need Help with Guitar Glissando
I am trying to work over a country-and-western song I wrote two decades ago (would you believe?!) and I want to use an electric guitar making a glissando on two notes to the next two notes, e.g. D and B up to G and D. I am using General MIDI instruments for this so I have set the track's instrument to Electric Jazz Guitar. When I use the Glissando from the Groups palette, it gives me an upward "run" but I hear the individual notes in between (i.e. individual guitar strings) instead of a continuous "slide." Is there a way to get an actual slide (like a trombone glissando) with a guitar? Should I select a different General MIDI instrument for this effect? I have tried some Synth options but no better. Any hints appreciated.

Re: Need Help with Guitar Glissando
there is a "slide" button in the Tools tab, under Guitar......bottom row, 4th from the right.
I tried to see if this would do the trick, but each time I tried, Overture crashed.
I have version 5.6.3-3

I tried that. It doesn't do anything to the notes; I think it is only a marking in the score for the guitarist's fingering.

Hi Dr. Leonard,
I think you're looking for a way to adjust the PItch Bend parameters...and there are some ways to go about extending the range via CC NRPs and using different MIDI controllers. However, I'd recommend looking for a guitar sample library that provides easy control over the sliding parameters. Maybe something like this?

FWIW, the guitar slide is not crashing for me in either 5.6.1-2 or 5.6.3.3. Not sure how you are getting it to crash Neil.
Best,
~Dean

I am a special type of ham fisted brute....I am not sure how I do half the things I do.
BTW.....I am counting down the days until we see an upgrade to Overture 6......it feels like Encore 6 is coming any day now......

Re: Need Help with Guitar Glissando
Thanks, Dean K., for the suggestion. I will follow up on it. It looks like I may have to find another instrument to get the effect I want. I thought also of a synthesizer doing the "slides" I want to incorporate in the song, instead of a guitar as such. If there is such a sample out there that is free, I would like to know about it. BTW my version is 5.6.1-2.

Hi Dr. Leonard,
Whatever synth you wind up finding/choosing... I imagine the key for you will be to extend/edit the pitch wheel range. This will probably be under a "Bend" option, or have additional ways to control the range, maybe even the oscillators could help achieve the effect you want.
You'll have to do a bit of exploring/tinkering around but looking at how straightforward the synth allows you to get it done should help guide your choice.
I'm not up on all the free synths out there, but maybe something like Vital will work for you...or at least get the ball rolling...

Let us know how things go or if you need help with some tinkering.
@Neil
hah...well if you can piece it together again we can always try to communicate it to Don for Overture 6.
That makes two of us, and BTW, Happy New Year guys!

Re: Need Help with Guitar Glissando
No, not with a standard General MIDI guitar. For a real slide, you'll need a guitar VST or sound library that supports slide articulations or pitch bend. FNF
