Cymbal Sounds in ASO - Need Help

Post by DrLeonard »

In entering cymbal notes in a one-line percussion score, right-clicking on the "x" shows me a list of various available key switches. I am not sure how to use these. For example, "B5 - Cym 1 Effects" gives a reverberating crash that sounds like a suspended cymbal. Not being a percussionist, I don't know what some of these descriptions mean, and some of the switches, whatever they are, don't seem to play at all. What I am looking for right now is:
(1) A standard crash, where the player holds the open cymbals while they sound.
(2) A short tap of the hand-held cymbals.
(3) A (relatively) short tap of a suspended cymbal.
I can't seem to find a key switch that gives me what I want. Additionally, I don't know how these sounds should be notated in an Overture score; all I know is an X on the percussion line. Any help on playing and notating cymbals would be appreciated.
