VISE v Vienna Library in K2

Postby dko22 » Sat Jun 02, 2007 7:47 am

is there anyone who is using the VI Special Edition and can compare it to the Vienna library bundled with K2 in terms of instrument, articulations, playability and compatibility with Ov. 4. One key change is that solo strings are included with the VISE which is important for me but what else is noteworthy?

Hello, David

I don't have VISE, so I can't present information on your question. But I know your chamber music works, and I suppose Garritan solo strings may be one of your choices, though they lack 2nd and viola as of this moment.

I purchased Gofriller first, and Strad next. I'm testing them now, and I can load two instances of Strad and two instances of Gofriller into my rather old 2GB RAM laptop PC. They work well and I'm able to render string quartets with them using EQ.

This is my very first piece which I renderd using Gofriller and Cubase on the day when I got Gofriller.

It took only about two hours to render it. It is their best virtue that Gofriller and Strad are very easy to use more than I could imagine.

when I first heard the Gofriller, I hated it and there are still some pretty awful demos on the Garritan site which will hardly help to boost sales! The finished version is certainly much improved and you've done a pretty good job on this one, Tatsu. There's nice earthy resinous sound which matches the music. I'm not sure if I'm yet totally convinced about the sound higher up and the legato seems a bit more convincing with VI but will try to listen to more. But anyway, I have already just ordered the VI SE and will see how that goes. Buying instruments separately from Garritan would cost more than the VI solo library if the viola is included (unless there is a bundle later) so they'd have to be pretty good. But I keep my eye open

Thanks. I agree with your comment on the official demos. My friend who uses Horizon solo strings also said somewhile the demos, especially The Swan, weren't very good. I guess realtime performance has the limitations of reality as to Gofriller, paradoxically speaking.

As you know, VI includes true legato and portamento, and that of Garritan is what's man-made. But I guess VI has few variations in the dynamics transition of legato subjecting to disk space or RAM space. I sometimes or often feel VI's legato is more synthetic than Garritan's, paradoxically speaking again.

But anyway, I have already just ordered the VI SE and will see how that goes.

Wow :D , I hardly wait to listen to your music using VISE, and I'm looking forward to read your review of VI.
