Hello friends,

Being busy with a new stringquartet and having finished part 1, I wonder if am at the right track using the strings and their articulations, dynamics and balance. For your information: all strings are the solo strings from EWQL SO Plat+. I also noticed that those solo strings aren't consistent in their recorded panning, but that is due to the programming of the library. I tried to "correct" those as musch as possible, but not everything could be done (e.g. starting a slurred legato begins at the left and the second note is more at the middle). It is noticeable in the violas.

All strings, except cello, have a second layer from GPO (not at all notes!!).

Raymond

Sorry, I would like but cannot help you. Because I am using VSL. This behavior was never been on.
I assume: switching to this library would ber too expensive.

Piece withdrawn. I am going VSL, I think. Before that, looking for some video tutorials, how-to's you know.
And some xml setup for the Ql solo violin.

See you around in a couple of days,
Raymond

Generally, I think VSL ist the best choice. Very cleverly adapt.

Yes, I agree. By the way, you still have that blue guitar?

O yes, I still have that blue guitar:

They said, "You have a blue guitar,
You do not play things as they are."
The man replied, "Things as they are
Are changed upon the blue guitar."

Are you using VLS with Overture? I am planning to buy only the Special Edition Strings and the Plus version. Just for the solo instruments. If you use it with Overture, which xml files are you using? The ones Tatsu distributed or self-made?
Another question. I see that they speak about SSD drives for faster access. I don't have them. Is it also possible, like the EWQL samples, loading some "general used" samples into RAM. I just upgraded my system from 12 Gb to 24 Gb RAM, so I think there will be plenty enough room for this.

I use VSL directly with Overture. No XML files. I use all build in commands. I do not have experience with XML files. For my purposes, and I compose big orchestra scores from time to time, I use only Overture together with the Vienna Instrument Pro Player, 64 Bit.

You do not Need SDD drives. A fast harddisk with 7.200 rpm is mor than enough. My System has 16 GB RAM. It is more than enough for my needs.

Two years ago at the end of the year, I used QLSO plat's solo strings with Sibelius. I had not noticed it until now, but now that you mention it, I see I noticed that viola's detache, pizzicato and some articulations are roaming around in some degree.

To show that "roaming" of the solo strings in EWQL SO Platinum Plus, I've put the separate audio files made by Overture into one folder, for you to look (hear) at it.

Link:

https://www.box.com/s/zs5xfs3wp6ytuafatccp

All recorded with Overture, after tweaking as much as possible the wrong panning of the library itself.

    panning in Overture exactly zero
    EWQL panning also zero
I only used the Direct mic and left out the Stage mic

so you would think that everything comes from the middle. But no, some articulations "walk along" freely. Remark: all but the cello are layered with GPO solo strings.

That's why today I ordered VSL - Special Edition Strings and SE Strings Plus for merely the solo instruments.
Keep you all posted of my experience with this lib in another thread. This one is going way OT.

Raymond
