This is just a question about the timpani. In Amadeus (also other sample libraries) I assigned the Timpani. There are two of them. One steered by keyswitches (roll or hits) and another steered by octaves: higher octave for hits and lower octave for rolls. Other libs have some sort of keyswitches for getting the right one.
First I used the Amadeus one steered by keyswitches and noticed that at the end of the roll there is some sort of hit (as in some other libs). My question is, why is this hit at the end?

Avoiding this I opted for the other timpani with the octave choice, which doesn't have the hit at the end of a roll.
Can someone help me with an explanation why this "end hit" is mostly there (mostly, because other libs has this too).

Raymond

I believe most timpani rolls have a slight hit at the end and this is somewhat of a standard.

Unless a diminuendo is marked at the end of the roll, Don is right. It's how the instrument is normally played.
