Upon changing meter I've been stung a good number of times when Overture surprises me by setting the meter through to the end of the score as described in the second scenario, below.

• If I select measure 10 via double-click and choose Meter, Overture offers the range of measure 10 to 10. Exactly what I'd want and expect.

• In stark contrast, if I place the playback point in Measure 10—or have any selection made in Measure 10—Overture sets the measure range from 10 to the end of the score Granted, I can see some merit in this. But the "End of score" button is right there allowing one to consciously and explicitly make that request with a single click.

Suggestion 1: I know this is how Overture works. But it doesn't feel right ... and I forget, and if I fail to notice immediately (and the effect is not always obvious) then I've got a bit of remetering to manage. I'd personally be happier if the range "to the end of the score" required a more deliberate action ... or if Overture offered a warning that Overture automatically selected a range for me.

Suggestion 2: I'd also suggest a button to set the range "To meter change."

Up for your consideration ...

Just reviving this topic and adding another observation.

When I attempt to set the meter for a single measure I often find that I’ve inadvertently set the meter “from here to kingdom come” ... because I opened the Meter dialog after clicking in a measure.

Request: When there is no selection— i.e. the user has simply a clicked measure—please consider opening Overture's Meter dialog with its "range of impact" set to a single measure: the clicked measure.

When I want to set the meter for a single measure my instincts tell me to click in the measure and open Overture’s Meter dialog. But therein lies my mistake. Under these circumstances Overture automatically sets the scope of impact:

    • from the clicked measure to the next meter change.

    — or —

    • from the clicked measure to the end of the score.

I understand that I can get the result I want by double-clicking the measure and then opening the dialog. In that circumstance, if I can ever remember, Overture sets the scope to the single measure.

And alternately, if I've clicked and opened the dialog—and if I can ever remember—I can enter the measure number of the clicked measure into the "Through" field. But that seems counter to normal UX.

Please read the original message in this thread.
