When using the Viola ensemble, it sounds "unclean" and strange in certain ranges, the small section sounds fine. I tried different sampling rates, different ASIO drivers, but did not really find a solution to the problem. Could also be a panning issue maybe? I attached a short example I think its noticeable when you listen loud enough. Any ideas about the origins of the problem and how to fix it? Thanks!

Viola Ensemble sample "washed out" sound
Re: Viola Ensemble sample "washed out" sound
In the Kontakt interface you’ll see three ‘EQUALIZER’ knobs labelled respectively ‘Low, Mid, & High’. If you play with them you will probably be able to get the sound you’re listening for. It might (or might not) work for you. Your settings will save with your score.
Re: Viola Ensemble sample "washed out" sound
Thank you both for your replies. I'm using the Kontakt player within Reaper so I can't provide an OVEX file I'm afraid. It's probably harder to hear outside of a context maybe I will find another example but if you turn the volume up I think you ntice that it sounds like it is somehow a very low sample rate. I tried playing around with Equalizers, panning, Ambience/reverb and such but it did not change things and I also hear it with violins in certain passages. The reason might be connected to something else (Kontakt?) but I'm confused. Will try to upload a better sample over the weekend.
Re: Viola Ensemble sample "washed out" sound
I thought I had it fixed by updating the Kontakt Player but it weirdly is back now. I was also able to narrow it down to the Sustain samples, the other ones are fine. I am attaching another example, the beginning and end are sustain and in between theres a short marcato part. If you turn up the volume you should hear the difference, marcato is a clean sound, sustain sounds a bit like recorded under water or with a suddenly lower bitrate.

Re: Viola Ensemble sample "washed out" sound
You obviously have a more discerning ear than I do. Both your samples sounded really nice to me. Of course, your gear is probably top notch. Perhaps a dedicated string library will give you a somewhat better sound?
Re: Viola Ensemble sample "washed out" sound
My gear is quite cheap but I am working on the piece for a long time now and also getting into the whole mixing-thing step by step so I might be quite sensitive. It just bugs me on a technical level as well, because the other strings sound fine and I just can't figure out why this happens and also that no one else seems to have the problem.
I don't know whether that's ok to post in the bugs-forum but for full context, here's a place where I upload the current status of the piece, it's not fully done and probably harder to hear my problem but it keeps throwing me off

Re: Viola Ensemble sample "washed out" sound
I would opine that this work of yours is absolutely beautiful. Your talent requires more than ‘cheap gear’ and if cheap gear produced this kind of sound you must be a certifiable genius. If indeed you did compose this using Overture you will have an .ovex file. Is ASO the library you were using? Something seems fishy here. The finished product is way too polished.
